Operations Manager & Responsible Individual to oversee the strategic and
operational management of our care homes across St Helens, Wigan and Ormskirk
in accordance with Ofsted regulations and best practices. We have strong
established links with Local Authorities and proven track record with ‘Ofsted’ in
achieving ‘Good’ and ‘Outstanding’ outcomes across our services.
Role Summary:
As part of our Growth Plan, an exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced
Operations Manager & Responsible Individual, who will be responsible for ensuring
the highest standards of care, safeguarding, and compliance within our children’s
homes. You will oversee the operational performance, staff management, and
financial sustainability while acting as the Responsible Individual (RI) under Ofsted
regulations. You will lead the homes to achieve and maintain a “Good/Outstanding”
Ofsted rating by driving continuous improvement and ensuring regulatory
compliance. The suitable candidate would need to have at least 2 years’ experience
as an operations Manager.
Key Responsibilities:
Regulatory Compliance: Ensure full compliance with Ofsted regulations, the
Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015, and the Quality Standards.
Leadership & Management: Provide strong leadership to the Registered
Managers and care teams, fostering a culture of excellence, accountability,
and continuous improvement. Line manage, develop and mentor Registered
Managers and conduct supervisions and appraisals.
Safeguarding & Wellbeing: Promote and uphold the highest safeguarding
standards, ensuring the safety and welfare of all children and young people in
care.
Operational Oversight: Oversee the day-to-day operations of the home(s),
ensuring high-quality service delivery in line with policies and procedures. To
support in the writing, implementation and reviewing of company policies and
procedures. To provide Senior Management Team support out of hours as
needed
Staff Development: Recruit, train, and develop staff to maintain a high
performing team with a child-centred approach. Coaching, supporting and
championing the Registered Home Managers to develop and enhance
individual homes and team performance, focussing on improving care
practise, safeguarding outcomes, and care staff competency.
Financial & Business Management: Manage budgets effectively, ensuring
financial sustainability and growth while maintaining high-quality care
provision. Also ensure that all Children’s homes meet/exceed commercial
expectations in terms of occupancy/revenue.
Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with
external agencies, local authorities, and regulatory bodies.
Monitoring & Reporting: Conduct regular audits, reviews, and reports to
ensure performance and compliance standards are met. We have a Quality
and Compliance Officer for support.
Essential Criteria:
Proven experience in a senior leadership role within a children’s residential
care setting.
Must meet Ofsted’s Responsible Individual (RI) requirements and have a
strong understanding of relevant legislation, including the Children’s Homes
Regulations 2015 and Quality Standards.
Level 5 Diploma in Leadership & Management for Residential Childcare (or
equivalent).
Strong knowledge of safeguarding procedures and child protection
protocols.
Experience in leading and supporting Registered Managers and care
teams.
Ability to manage budgets, business operations, and regulatory requirements
effectively.
Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
A commitment to achieve high standards and driving positive outcomes for
children and young people.
Any other duties as befits the needs of the Company and or for the smooth
operation of Children’s homes and the wider Group as required.
Full UK Driving License
Desirable Criteria:
Previous experience working as a Responsible Individual within an Ofsted
regulated setting.
Experience in business development and service growth within the social
care sector.
